How To Get Free Hotel Rooms in Las Vegas!

Las Vegas is one of our favorite places to travel. Not only is there so much to do there and there are always new things to see and explore-but it’s also one of the cheapest places for us to visit since we’ve been able to get free rooms when we go! This means we only need to pay for our plane ticket, food, and entertainment!

Because there’s so much to see and do in Las Vegas, we’ve tried to stay at a variety of hotels when we go. Each hotel does an amazing job of staying true to the hotel’s theme and we want to experience them all! Because of the deals we’ve found we have sometimes stayed at multiple hotels throughout our trip as different hotels are cheaper on certain days of the week! When doing this, we check our luggage at the next hotel we’re staying at-it’s free at most hotels, just tip the bellhop and continue exploring, lounging at the pool, or whatever else we had planned for the day!

We’ve tried 3 different ways to find the best Vegas hotel deals, Hotwire.com’s Hot Rates, Vegas.com, and MyVegas app.

Hotwire.com

We used the Hot Rates deal on Hotwire.com to stay at Bally’s (now Horseshoe Las Vegas) for $40 a night.

The way Hot Rates works is that you choose an area on the map that you want to stay in as well as how many desired “stars” the hotel has. The website will list a couple of options for hotels but you won’t know which hotel you’ll be at until you book the hotel. Pro-tip: they will show you a picture of the hotel room, so if you look up what the hotel rooms look like from the 4 options they list, you can usually figure out what hotel you will be booked in.

When we stayed at Bally’s, we were also upgraded to the “Celebrity Suite”. Our suite had a full dining room, living room, a jacuzzi tub, and amazing views of the entire strip. The bedroom itself was bigger than the standard Las Vegas hotel room-we still have no idea how or why we were upgraded, but we’ll take it!!!

Vegas.com

Vegas.com has discounted hotel rooms, show tickets, tours, and attraction tickets. We booked with Vegas.com when they had their Cyber Monday sale. In addition to their already low prices, their Cyber Monday Sale typically offers a $50 gift certificate when you book anything through their site. We had planned to see 2 shows, so we decided to also stay at 2 separate hotels to really maximize the deal we were getting. I went on this trip with my mom, so we each booked one hotel room and used the $50 off voucher to get show tickets for about $35 each.

On this trip, we stayed at Paris for $19 a night and at the Palazzo in a suite for $119 a night. We ended up not being able to connect to the Wi-fi at Paris so we called the front desk to let them know and we ended up getting our Resort Fee (see more about this below!) waived since we didn’t use any of the other resort amenities while we were there.

myVEGAS App

This is what we have used the most often to book our hotels, what we have suggested to family and friends, and what we suggest to anyone else who is going to Vegas!!! myVEGAS Rewards is through MGM Resorts and it is a free-to-play slot machine game. It can be played through Facebook or the myVegas app. When you play the game, you get two different types of “coins”- game coins and rewards coins. Game coins can be used to continue playing slot machines through the game. Rewards coins can be used to redeem real-world rewards including free hotel nights at MGM resort properties! Although there is the option to buy game coins, we have NEVER spent any actual money playing the online games and still have gotten multiple nights free at various hotels!!

Because this game is through MGM resorts, only MGM hotels are reward options. Although there are more hotels available, so far we’ve stayed at Excalibur, Park MGM, VDARA, and Bellagio-all for free!! When we went to Las Vegas for my bachelorette party, a couple of us who had the game all booked separate nights at Bellagio and all we had to do was call the hotel to let them know we were part of the same party so we didn’t need to change rooms between the nights!

They have also expanded the myVEGAS rewards games. There is now myVEGAS, POP!SLOTS, MGM slots live, and myVEGAS bingo. All of these games can be linked to your Facebook account so the rewards coins accumulate between games. This really helps add up those rewards coins which you can redeem for food deals (including free Vegas Buffets!!), free show tickets, and even free cruises-with partners that work with MGM!

As with everything in life, read the fine print as there are guidelines on how often you can book various rewards/reward types as well as location-based fine print!

Player’s cards

Each hotel group (MGM, Caesar’s Entertainment, Venetian/Palazzo, Hardrock Hotel, etc.) have Player’s cards through their rewards programs. These programs are free to sign up and get a card. This allows the resort to track how much money you are spending at their properties so they can determine if you are eligible for comp rooms, food vouchers, and Freeplay rewards in the future.

Because we typically stay at MGM properties (through myVEGAS), any money we spend at the casino we try to spend at MGM properties. This has allowed us to get additional free room offers-we get emails at least weekly as well as food vouchers and freeplay dollars!

What’s the deal with resort fees?

When booking a Las Vegas strip hotel, something to keep in mind is that each hotel does have a nightly resort fee. The resort fee varies depending on the hotel and can be anywhere from $25-$50 if you're staying on the Strip. Depending on how much money you spend (that’s recorded by your membership card), you can always ask the player's desk if they deduct some of the resort fee cost, but that isn’t a guarantee!!

But if you use the tips above and all you have to pay is the $35-ish a night for a hotel, that’s a deal that can’t be beat!!

Long story short, don’t pay full price for a hotel room in Las Vegas!!!
